It's probably one of the reasons I even wound up feeling so overly compelled to do this rate. to the point of complete fascination & obsession. Over the years my love of this album has only grown. "Feels like a demo, seems unfinished but not quite in an acapella way!" (pop3: It's not 'unfinished'. Is it a sample, it feels like I know it well?" (pop3: No sample. Like, I don’t know why I’m getting that vibe from this, but it’s so much fun, and I can’t stop jamming and tapping my foot, and I really like the lyrics." (pop3: Yes, to all to all of this! Thank goodness you did the rate or my 10 would've been the lone score over an 8.5 for this absolute 8 "The “woohoo!” at the beginning dddd I love it, and it adds to the almost country-esque feel to it. It was a fave from day one of the album’s release, but as I’ve gotten more obsessed with The Big Room over the years, this song has taken on even more mythology in their journey… and mine as a music fan. The energy, the tone, the songwriting: Everything is perfect here for me. In short, this song captures the sprit & urgency of the whole The Big Room sessions about as well as anything to me. I’ll likely touch upon it more is some other write-ups. I’ve already talked quite a bit about this song in a couple of other write-ups. Maybe I knew it’d be a tad divisive, but hoped for a to 50 at least. Our shade of purple for ‘Never Gonna Get It’ is: "She impresses in this ‘live lounge’ setting Girl: Is Death: 8.5 I can’t quite put my finger on it, but a couple of songs on the record do kind feel like they are in search on a different album (this may very well be due to piecemeal way the album was assembled for international release.)Īnyways, I appreciate some of the dramatics of the song, though & while the song actually teeters in the ‘high 7’ range for me, the ending here is my favorite part & pushes it to an 8. It also feels a bit out of place on the album to me. #4E2A84 (78, 48, 132) Northwestern PurpleĪ pretty idea here, but one of the few songs on Songs From A Blackbird that doesn’t completely come together to me. Our shade of purple for is: ‘Running Out Of Road’ "That insistent riff!!! YES PLEASE!!" (pop3: Yes! It could almost be a stock music loop, it's so :8 It feels like a proper acknowledgment of her hero.without it feeling copycat. ‘Running…’ is very country folk & she nails some of the Joni-isms, that so obviously inspired the project. It’s a mysterious alchemy she weaves through a lot of her music. It still feels in her wheelhouse, but there is just a general rawness & world wearniess to the precedings… which belies the sweetness of her voice. ’Running Out Of Road’ is a wonderful extension (maturity, if you well) from some of Marit’s earlier work. *oomph* Well the Joni Was Right songs lasted a bit longer than I thought why might.
